egg shell candles

Sometimes I’m amazed that I’m not a hoarder with 50 cats and armies of miniature gnomes in my flower beds. Because I LOVE small, simple decorative items. Like these egg shell candles. There’s just something so unique and sweet about them. Surprisingly, they are not difficult to make, either!

supplies needed:

• eggs, brown & white
• wax flakes
• candle wicks
• toothpicks
• hot glue gun

step 1 – prepare the eggs

You will need several eggs, both brown and white. Break the shells in half and save the yolk and whites in the refrigerator to use for a recipe (I hate to see food go to waste!) Then rinse the shells out thoroughly and put them aside to dry. Once dry, place them in an empty egg carton to keep them stable.

step 2 – attach wicks

Secure the metal bottoms of the wicks in the shells with a dab of hot glue. 

step 3 – add wax

Following the instructions on the container of  wax flakes, melt in a glass measuring cup in the microwave. Once completely melted, carefully pour into the egg shells. Use toothpicks to keep the wicks upright and centered while wax is drying.

And that’s how easy it is! Now that I know how simple it is to make them, I can’t wait to try some more creative approaches – such as coloring the wax or dying the shells. But I won’t go too wild… crazy cat lady hoarding visions swimming around in my head.
