I love decorating my tree with fresh artistic themes each year. But let’s face it. I don’t always have the time to reinvent the wheel. So this year, I decided to create an ombre Christmas tree using nothing but Dollar Store ornaments. Inexpensive? Yep. Simple? Yep. The results? Well, take a look for yourself.

supplies needed:
- ball ornaments
- spray paint
- ornament hooks
step 1 – paint ornaments
I found Christmas ball ornaments at the Dollar Store for only $5 for a pack of 20. For my narrow 7 foot tree, I used 120 ornaments. A total of $30, which isn’t bad.
The spray paint cost considerably more than the ornaments, but much of the paint I already owned. I used the following colors: metallic gold, yellow, olive green, teal, light aqua, light blue, lavender, purple, and red.
step 2 – hang ornaments
I began by hanging the gold and yellow ornaments around the top section of the tree. For the next section I began with olive green, followed by turquoise, light aqua, then light blue. For the final section, I led with lavender, then purple, and finished with red.
In keeping with the ball theme, I topped the tree with three glitter floral embellishments and a burlap & gold polka dot ribbon.

This is so beautiful. We never do a themed tree, it’s more of a bung everything on effect but I do love to admire something more artistic. I love how you made this so uncomplicated.

I did not flock the tree myself, and I can’t remember where I bought it. It is 7 ft. tall but very narrow.
