Sometimes I see so many cute items on Pinterest my head spins. Especially pillows. And these boho style recycled denim pillows from Urban Outfitters definitely caught my eye. So I tried creating my own take of these sweet pillows.

supplies needed:
- fabric
- old jeans
- pillow insert
- sewing machine
step 1 – patchwork front
Using fabric scraps of your choice along with a remnant cut from a pair of old denim jeans, stitch together in patchwork style. Trim seams, then press them flat. Because I’m using a 14″x22″ pillow insert, I need to make sure the pillow front is slightly larger than the insert. The patchwork front needs to be larger than 14″x22″.
On the front side, top-stitch the seams for a more finished look.
Next, trim the front to the size of the pillow insert you are using. I used a 14″x 22″ insert, so I cut the front down to this exact size.
step 2 – back
Cut two pieces of fabric for the pillow back, each measuring 14″ x 14″. On the inside edges of the pieces (see photo C below), fold under 1/4″ (photo A). Then fold over again about 1 1/2″ and stitch down (photo B).
Now pin the two small pieces together with the folded edges overlapping, as shown below.
step 3 – stitch front to back
Pin the front to the back, with right sides together. Stitch together around all four sides, making sure the inside stitch lines measure 12″ x 20″. (Making the pillow cover 2″ smaller than the pillow insert assures a firmly filled pillow.) Trim seams. Turn right-side out and press.
step 4 – finishing touches
Add two buttons and make two buttonholes on the back closure of the cover, as shown below.
Fill cover with insert. Close buttons. And enjoy your new boho style recycled denim pillow.
The biggest compliment is a little share – pin photo below!
I meant “sewing”, sorry for the typo.
Great idea. BTW, you don’t even need a sewibg machine, you can sew them by hand.It may take more time but it is rewarding.
Yes you are right!
