Chocolate covered strawberries are not only delicious and beautiful, but deceptive. That’s right. An impressive display of fresh strawberries dripping in chocolate and arranged on a silver platter is a deception, I tell you. A marvelously easy deception. Why pay $50 or more for a dozen of them from Harry & David when you can make your own for under $10?
That’s why I asked Lilly, the chef from Blended Palate, to give me a lesson – Chocolate Covered Strawberries 101.

supplies needed:
- fresh strawberries
- 8 oz Baker’s semi sweet chocolate
- 8 oz Baker’s white chocolate
- crushed graham crackers & Oreos
step 1 – prepare
First wash the strawberries then place them on a paper towel. While drying, place a few Oreos and graham crackers in small ziplock bags. Use a rolling pin to crush them. Finally, line a baking sheet or shallow dish with wax paper; the dipped strawberries will be placed here to dry.
step 2 – melt chocolate
Place an 8 oz bar of semi-sweet chocolate in a microwaveable safe dish. Heat in a microwave oven, stirring at intervals until smooth. Melt the white chocolate the same way in a separate dish.
step 3 – dip strawberries
Holding a strawberry by its stem, gently dip in the melted chocolate, then place it on the wax paper.
For other variations, immediately after dipping the strawberry in chocolate, sprinkle it with crushed graham crackers or Oreos. Place on wax paper to dry.
Another option is to fill a small plastic bag with a bit of white chocolate; snip the end off the bag; gently squeeze decorative designs onto berries.
step 4 – store strawberries
Once the dipped strawberries are dry, place them in a container lined with wax paper. Cover with a another piece of wax paper before adding another layer of berries. Seal container and store in the refrigerator.
Now here is where the fun begins. To add a festive touch to your Easter celebration, pair the berries with a faux chocolate bunny (see the post Faux Chocolate Bunny and Female Empowerment).

Yum Yum and more Yum! I love almost anything covered in chocolate but strawberries are probably the best!
I agree Julie. I have an insatiable sweet tooth!
Following you via the Sew It, Cook It, Craft It party. These strawberries look so good! I’m going to have to try this. I recently bought some from a popular brand that I won’t name and was disappointed because they arrived mushy. I’ve been craving them ever since.
Thanks for sharing, Renee
thanks for stopping by! yes, the strawberries were very good!
