diy cocktail stirrers

Cocktail stirrers are making a comeback. Pretty ones, that is. Adorned with geometric beads, shiny gems, and even yarn pom poms. But because I can’t really visualize my husband getting excited over a super cute cocktail stirrer, I decided to design some for my girlfriends. So they can stir the fancy cocktails I serve them and tell me I’m the craft queen.

supplies needed

• bamboo skewers or small wooden dowels
• letter charms
• hot glue gun
• variety of beads
• 22 gauge beading wire

shorten the dowel

Wooden dowels or skewers usually come in a longer size than you will need, so shorten the dowel with a pair of heavy duty scissors. Don’t worry if the end is not smooth, as it will be hidden by the adornments.

add beads

Next run the dowel through a large wire mesh bead. Then thread a piece of 22 gauge beading wire through the bottom of the bead and twist it around the dowel. Add a personalized letter charm to the other end of the wire, then run the end back through the mesh wire bead.

adorn the top

Push the large wire bead up to the very top end of the dowel. Run the piece of small wire through another colorful bead, wrapping it around the bead several times. Also secure it onto the top of the dowel with a dab of hot glue. After wrapping the wire, thread the end of the wire back into the mesh wire bead. Lastly, add a few other miscellaneous beads with hot glue. And then admire your DIY cocktail stirrers.
