I don’t know about you, but I hate wearing a mask. However, I DO wear it. I also misplace it, loose it, and constantly rush back to my car to retrieve it. So when my friend suggested I make a cute mask chain to attach to a mask and keep it from falling, I agreed this was a clever idea.

supplies needed:
FOR CHAIN
- (2) 15 mm lobster clasps
- (2) crimp beads
- bead crimper
- clear monofilament cording
BEADS
- (80) 6mm glass beads in assorted shades of green
- (50) seed beads
- (7) lotus beads
step 1 – attach clasp
The first step in making your mask chain is to cut a piece of filament cord approximately 28 inches long. Thread the cord through a crimp bead. Then thread it through a lobster clasp and back through the crimp bead. Leave a little bit of wiggle room between the clasp and the crimp bead. With a bead crimper , flatten the crimp bead tightly around the cords. I found the video from Potomac Bead Company below helpful in explaining this process.
step 2 – add beads
In selecting beads, I tried to find the lightest weight ones possible while sticking to the 6mm size. However, smaller beads can be used. After securing the clasp and crimp bead, I added 3 small seed beads. Then I followed the sequence below:
- 10 glass beads
- 3 brown seed beads
- lotus spacer bead
- 3 brown seed beads
Repeat this pattern 7 times. Then add 10 more glass beads followed by 3 seed beads.
step 3 – attach clasp
Lastly, finish the end of the necklace the same way you did on the other end, with a crimp bead and clasp.
The biggest compliment is a little share – pin the photo below!
Hi can I know what is the size for crimp beads?
Happy Valentine’s Day to you, Wendy! I LOVE that you made a chain to hang your mask! I did lose one, a really cute light brown calico floral and I am sick about it… It had to have fallen out of my pocket at school somewhere. Anyway, I am happy to feature your post (and I always pin to several boards!!) at this past Wednesday’s Share Your Style #292. <3
Hope you are staying warm where you are,
Bisous back,
Barb 🙂
What a smart idea! Thanks for sharing at Celebrate Your Story! Link Party. Congrats! You’ve been featured this week 🙂
Hey Wendy, that’s very attractive and useful as well! I need to make one for myself!
Very pretty. I used to have several of these for my ID when I worked before Covid. Thank you for sharing at Party In Your PJ’s.
Congratulations! Your post was my feature pick at #OverTheMoon this week. Each Hostess displays their own features so be sure to visit me on Sunday evening and to see your feature! I invite you to leave more links to be shared and commented upon. Please don’t forget to add your link numbers or post title so we can be sure to visit!
Thanks for your comment! Good to know. But if you go out for the day, the chain helps you keep track of it for that day. Then of course wash it when you get home. So glad you stopped by my blog!
Bonjour Wendy. There’s juste a problem. When you leave the mask, then put it in a bag and wash it at home. When you don’t do so the virus – if you catched him – stays in your car or wherever you leave the mask for the next 2 days. Here in France 😉 we handle the problem like this since march 2020.
Sorry this is my first comment as new subscriber… But why not make a chain, it’s just nice . Have a nice day and stay safe. Bises à vous également…
