fall wardrobe mood board

After week one of Seamwork’s Design Your Wardrobe challenge, I’ve got this to show for my all my effort – my mood board. Go ahead, hit me with all you oohs and aahs. It is pretty cool, and I’m proud of myself. I have a cohesive direction for a transitional fall wardrobe.

determine design contexts

After collecting tons of inspiration, my next step was to think seriously about the contexts in my life for which I’ll be designing. I had two considerations. First, I spend much of the winter in Florida, so a transitional wardrobe for fall suits me better than a heavy, winter one.

Secondly, let’s face it. I’m a Birkenstock and Gap girl. And my lifestyle is casual as well. For me, Autumn means brisk evenings and hot cocoa, football games and chunky sweaters, book club meet-ups and wine tastings. Evenings out with friends (think trendy slacks & vintage blouses). Blogging & freelancing from home (think pajamas). So an edgy yet casual wardrobe is what I’m after.

Now to reign in all my ideas and assemble them onto a mood board. I started by considering the basics around which I ‘m designing this collection. Black leggings, jeans, neutral tees, and a boat-neck striped top. Remember, I’m a Gap girl.

wardrobe basics

What’s on my sewing list? Adding a cropped lightweight jacket and a flannel wrap will give me some stylish options for cool weather layering. Next, tunics – one short & flirty, the other longer & heavier. I’m thinking corduroy? And finally my statement pieces – dressy cropped wide-leg pants and a bold print skirt.

Finally, I pulled it all together with a color palette. Easy, right? What are you waiting for? Start designing your own threads and join me for this journey!
