This faux chocolate bunny is perhaps the easiest craft I’ve ever done. Ceramic bunny $10, spray paint $4, added to a platter of chocolate strawberries – priceless. And this isn’t just any old bunny. We found out she’s quite the feminist. We’ll get to that part soon.

supplies needed:
- spray paint (I used gloss enamel chocolate brown)
- ceramic bunny
I picked up this bunny in the Easter aisle of the grocery store. I then added a few coats of glossy brown spray paint.
I’d like to say the story ends here, with a shiny chocolate bunny just waiting to be used in a special Easter decoration. But this bunny had a mind of her own. Lilly, the chef behind Blended Palate, was testing recipes in my kitchen, and she decided to make some chocolate covered strawberries. They would make a lovely Easter vignette when paired with the chocolate bunny. Lilly also decided that we should catch up on a previous season of Game of Thrones while we were working. That’s when the trouble began.
I don’t have HBO, so Lilly encouraged me to sign up for a free trial. Brilliant. I phoned my husband for his Roku password. Well, you probably can guess the rest. Simply put, he shut the idea down. I complied and went back to bunny painting. But as I gazed into those beady rabbit eyes, I thought about what I just did. I complied. Have you ever looked up comply in a thesaurus? Okay, probably not. But I did. And its synonyms are acquiesce, yield, submit, give up, straighten up, ROLL OVER AND PLAY DEAD… I kid you not. Well, something happened when I looked at that bunny, and I suddenly felt empowered to grab my credit card out of my purse and get my own damn subscription to HBO.
Let’s just say the rest of the afternoon, while dipping strawberries and watching Game of Thrones, Lilly and I fondly referred to the chocolate bunny as HB. So that is now bunny’s official name. HB… Khaleesi… Mother of Dragons… Protector of the Seven Kingdoms. And I must say, doesn’t HB look beautiful and inspiring sitting amidst Lilly’s yummy chocolate covered strawberries?
The biggest compliment is a little share – pin the photo below!
haha, and HB does look like she’s chocolate!
Glad you enjoyed the post!
I love your story Wendy…and I love your chocolate bunny. He looks so real (in chocolate of course) and to have a chef actually making chocolate covered strawberries for you in your own kitchen?…what a perfect day. I am drooling right now.
Thanks Kari! It was a fun day!
