pursuing wholeness instead of perfection

quote

The past several months I’ve taken a break from blogging. 2023 has tossed so many blessings into my lap, and I’ve been busier than I ever imagined. But blessings don’t always come in neatly wrapped packages. Sometimes they come with demanding cries and sticky hands. Yep, they’re called grandchildren, and mine are brand new with little fingers and big attitudes. Ages 6 months and 2 1/2 years.

After 8 years of crafting and blogging, I debated whether I should retire. Life has gotten incredibly busy. But here’s what I’ve learned. Life will ALWAYS be busy. So I’m not giving up the blog; I’m changing my approach… to blogging and to life.

As for My French Twist, it’s here to stay. I will, however, focus my crafting on projects I truly love and new skills I’m eager to learn rather than simply what’s on trend.  A few projects in my studio include remodeling a dollhouse into a vintage replica of my childhood home, completing some home projects (boho patchwork drapes and dining room chair covers), learning punch needle, and even taking up woodworking. I also want to challenge myself this new year to make more handmade gifts rather than store bought ones.

That’s just a glimpse of what’s to come. As for my life, I’m taking the same approach. Less scheduling and more spontaneity. Less focus on cleaning my house and more focus on opening it – to friends, kids and grandkids. I even look forward to the smudgy handprints left on my sliding doors once they leave. My mother-in-law used to purposely leave them there for a week or two after we visited, just to remember the sweetness of our babies.

I hope you’ll join me in 2024 for a year filled with heart-felt crafting. Learn a new skill. Try a new tutorial. And join me as I strive to pursue wholeness instead of perfection
