Historians say to learn about the future, we need to look at the past. Guess what? Fashionistas say the same thing! Everything old becomes new again… maxi skirts, down vests, even culottes. Let’s just pray that shoulder pads will never, ever fall into that category and only find their way into the teeth-gnashing pits of fashion hell right alongside fanny packs. But fur stoles are a different story. HOLD ON PETA PEEPS…I’m not advocating real furs. Faux fur can be just as elegant. But you have to admit that there’s a distinct old-Hollywood-glamour and allure associated with fur. And it takes some kick-ass confidence to wear a stole tossed just right over your shoulders. Or in this case, a fox scarf.
I remember my mother’s fur stole. It was a (cough, cough) fox…head included. I thought it made her look like a movie star, and when she posed for a polaroid shot before going out it just may have been convincing, if it weren’t for the second-hand station wagon in the background. I was reminded of this the other day when I stumbled upon the cutest pattern for a knitted fox scarf. See, an adorable fresh take on a (rather creepy) fashion from the past. That’s what I call retro-fitted! And now we finally know what the fox says…”knit me, don’t f*#*!cking wear me.”
