Today when we hear the word green, we often think healthy, organic, chemical-free. But when our mothers and grandmothers heard that word, they thought color – olive, chartreuse, and celadon. Not only did they envision shades of green, they infused their homes and wardrobes with it. But time’s have changed. Move over apple green shag carpet and avocado appliances; there’s a new green in town. Pantone’s 2017 color of the year – Greenery.
What’s not to feel good about this color?! Beautiful. Luscious. Fresh. I can’t wait to include it in my Spring wardrobe (and I’m going to show you how!) But first, because of my obsession with vintage vibes, it’s worth a peek back in time to see how our mother’s generation used this color.
How to work green into your spring wardrobe:
I have to admit I’ve been wanting a flowing, chiffon maxi skirt for some time now; and in this fresh green color, it’s irresistable! I love pairing a beautiful piece with a basic white tee, then let the accessories do the talking. And what I’m most excited about is this simple yet classy gold bar necklace. I recently stumbled across this New York based company, AUrate, and fell in love with their jewelry. I also fell in love with their story.
Started by two young women in 2015, AUrate partners with a charter school network in Philadelphia providing books to underprivileged kids. (Hey, I’m an English major; this story tugged at my heart.)
And here’s a second look on my wardrobe wish list, which is an updated version of the pink & green palette from the eighties – a subdued green off-the-shoulder top, soft pink culottes, and subtle pink flats. I built the outfit around an adorable pink & green Orla Kiely bag, and once again I accessorized with another great piece of jewelry from AUrate. The only touch needed when wearing an off-shoulder top is a pair of stunning dangle earrings.
I’d blog a little longer, but hey, I’m itching to go shopping. Can’t wait to get my green on.
