I know, I know… a heart craft challenge should be in February, not September! And what happened to an August challenge?? I agree, I’m a little preoccupied this summer. Life has been crazy! Toasty beaches and ocean waves explain why there is no August challenge this year. I’ve been vacationing quite a bit (a benefit of working from home) and decided to put crafting on hold for a few weeks. Spending time with relatives has been my priority.
But I’m back home now and just enjoyed a great meet-up with my crafting peeps. One of the members came up with this heart challenge for September and even assigned us extra homework! In addition to a “heart” craft (anything goes, as long as a heart is involved… heart fabric, heart-shaped items, etc.), she asked us to sew some sweet little fabric hearts to donate to The Preemie Project. They are easy-peezy, just two pieces of heart-shaped fabric stitched together. The Preemie Project will donate them to mothers whose newborn infants have been admitted to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. The fabric heart is worn against the mother’s skin so that it will absorb her scent. It is then placed in her baby’s isolette or crib so her “heart” is always near.
If you decide to join the heart challenge, send photos and descriptions of your finished project to bricoleart@aol.com. I’d love to share them with my readers. And if you want to send along some fabric hearts for The Preemie Project, that would be awesome as well! Email me for the address. In case you need some inspiration for your own craft challenge, I’ve rounded up some of the sweetest heart projects ever.
