The title of this post sounds a bit bland, doesn’t it? But I assure you, this simple black and white macrame wall hanging is anything but boring. It makes a statement displayed alone, but it also looks amazing in a grouping of rattan and wicker baskets.
Now that you see how darn cute it is, shall we get started?

supplies needed:
step 1 – back section
First cut 3 bamboo poles each measuring 27″ in length. Next, cut 12 pieces of natural 3mm rope, each measuring 72″ in length, and also 27 pieces of black 3mm rope, each measuring 72″ in length. Tie the rope pieces to the pole using Lark’s Head Knots. Group all the black pieces in the center with 6 natural pieces on each end.
step 2 – middle section
For this section, cut 16 pieces of natural rope, each measuring 60″ in length, and 12 pieces of black rope, each measuring 60″ in length. Tie to pole using Lark’s Head Knots, with 8 pieces of natural rope on each end, as shown below.
step 3 – front section
Cut 10 pieces of natural rope, each measuring 48″ in length, and 4 pieces of black rope, also measuring 48″ in length. Tie onto the last bamboo pole using Lark’s Head Knots. Cord placement should be 4 natural cords, 1 black cord, 1 natural, 2 black, 1 natural, 1 black, 4 natural. See photo below.
step 4 – finishing touches
Easy so far, right? This next part is easy as well but a bit tedious. Gently unravel all the cords, then hang. I used 2 small nails to hang each section to the wall, starting with the back section first. Arrange sections so the bottoms line up evenly; then trim the bottom to give it a cleaner look.
I love the way this simple black and white macrame wall hanging looks. It will look darling hanging alone. However, I helped my daughter-in-law make this to add to a grouping of baskets over her mantle. I’ll post a more detailed tutorial on that project soon, but here’s a sneak peek!
The biggest compliment is a little share – pin the photo below!
I love your macrame wall hanging, Wendy! I might just have to try this one, though I have sworn I would never allow macrame in My Wee Abode! I love the modern twist on yours! We’d love to see you back at Tuesday Turn About… Hope you’ll share this project! Pinned!
Thanks Julie!
That’s beautiful, very modern and sophisticated. Looks great in this wall arrangement too, so classy.
Thanks Julie, it was a fun and economical way to dress up my daughter in law’s mantle.
