Searching for midcentury modern decor and don’t know where to start? It can be tricky, I know. I recently walked into a large, beautiful furniture showroom in Ft. Myers, Florida, which came highly recommended. I told them I was interested in mid-century modern style, and the associate didn’t quite know what I meant! Even though this style trend has been on the horizon for a while now. I knew then that I was on my own.

But you are lucky. You get to benefit from my research. I’ve put together a list of my top 10 favorite shops for Danish modern decor. It includes vintage furnishings as well as beautiful reproductions.

Vintage

If you are looking for the real deal and don’t mind the price tags that go along with that, check out these stores.

  • 1stdibs – Highly coveted twentieth century antiques from all over the world. Pricey. What I’m currently lusting over: Charlotte Perriand Les Arcs barstools, over $2,000 each.

  • Mid Century Mobler –  The largest midcentury modern furniture dealer in Northern California with all furniture imported from Denmark. Watch for sales and free shipping. What I’m eyeing: Mid-century modern telephone bench, $825.

  • Corinne Robbins Inc – So I have inside scoop here. Corrine is my sister-in-law. Nonetheless, her curated American and Danish mid-century modern collections will blow you away. Located at 1977 Route 295 in Canaan, New York, her studio is inviting and beautiful. What I’m begging her for: one of her original abstract paintings.

Reproductions

You may think furnishing a home in mid-century style would involve a lot of hunting and digging. Don’t get me wrong. Flea markets and estate sales can yield some really great pieces, but there are increasingly more and more retail stores offering reproductions at competitive prices. Check out my favs.

  • Joybird – Sofas, chairs, tables and beds that you can customize. A wide selection of upholstery options. What I’ve ordered: Eastwood chairs in Key Lime, $999 each; Preston sofa in Dawson Brindle, $1499. All their midcentury modern furniture is beautiful.

  • CB2 – Modern furniture caters to apartment living, so many of their designs have an industrial flair. What I’m watching: Roadhouse barstools, $269 each. (They offer a similar retro feel to the Charlotte Perriand stools I love, only much, much cheaper.)

Other

  • Y Living – This store is filled to the brim with modern designs. They are not cheap but carry some legendary brands still in current production, such as Knoll, Herman Miller (Eames), and Nelson. Other brands worth investigating are Modloft, Copeland, Blue Dot, and Modernica. What I’m going to buy (even if I have to go without mattresses for a while): George Nelson Lotus floor lamp, $535.

  • Ikea – I know, I know… this is the 11th store and I said I’d only give you my top 10. However, this one’s special. Not only does Ikea offer modern furniture at cheap prices, but if you’re a DIY-er, it should be your best friend. “Ikea hacks” keep popping up on Pinterest every day. For example, take a look at this darling Ikea dresser turned mid-century style showpiece transformed by Annette at A Vintage Splendor.
