I love an organized home, and I’ve learned the best way to keep one is to limit bringing too many new items into it. Some minimalists even live by the mantra “an old item out for every new item in.” I’m not that extreme, but I often try to use things I have on hand whenever I can, especially when it comes to crafting. That’s why I love these upcycled denim fabric baskets made from old jeans.

supplies needed:
- an old pair of jeans
- sewing machine
step 1 – cutting & stitching
Using the leg of an old pair of jeans, cut approximately 8″ from the bottom hem. Turn the leg piece inside out and stitch the non-hemmed opening together, as shown below.
step 2 – making the corners
With the leg still inside out, lay the bottom seam flat, creating two pointed corners. Stitch a horizontal line about 2-3″ down from the point., then trim the excess. Do this for both corners.
When turned right side out, the leg now takes the shape of a basket or bucket.
step 3 – option for tissue holder
If making a tissue box holder, another method is to turn the leg piece inside out. Then place the tissue box inside. Press the box down on a flat surface, as shown in photo below.
Now mark the excess fabric from the 2 bottom corners with straight pins. Remove the box then stitch a line where the pins are placed. Do this for both corners.
You can see in the photo below how the stitched corners create a box shape from the leg.
Turn inside out.
Now you have a creative way to hold a tissue box.
Assorted sizes of these upcycled denim fabric baskets can be used for a multitude of purposes.

What a great way to repurpose old jeans. I’m always looking for a basket to hold all the small things that get scattered around in drawers. I think the denim ones you made would be perfect for that. Thanks for the idea!
You are welcome. Glad you liked the post!
What a fun and fabulous idea and way to repurpose jeans. Featuring when my link party opens.

I lost my husband a couple of years ago and I haven’t been able to part with his clothes. I’m always looking for things to do with them. Thanks for the great idea.
Hope this is an idea you can use❤️
I love using old jeans for so many things. Now I’ve saved some basmati rice burlap bags but don’t know what to do with them. Any ideas?
Hmmm not off hand. But now I’m curious! Let me think on that😊
Cute and so sturdy with the denim,
