Seldom do I take things too literally. The English major that I am, I like to think in metaphors and symbolism. But for my recent craft club assignment, I decided to take the challenge literally. Our homework was simply this: a fabulous find. See how I turned that into a cute earring holder.

For days I looked for inspiration – while walking my pug, jogging through parks, even while running errands. Then it hit me. During a stroll at a nearby marina, I spotted a boater repairing a screen window. I asked if I could have the discarded piece of screen, and of course he said yes (not sure what he was thinking, though).
That was my fabulous find. A discarded, ugly screen. Until I came up with this idea.
First, I took an old wooden embroidery hoop and a can of spray paint.
After a few coats of copper metallic paint, I hooped the screen, along with a piece of wide crocheted ribbon.
Next, I trimmed the excess from the screen and ribbon ends and found a fun place to hang it. The screen is perfect for holding pierced earrings.
Inexpensive. Easy. I must say, this upcycled earring holder is indeed a fabulous find!
