upcycled milk carton vase

Not only is this little boho vase cute, but it can be made from supplies you probably already have on hand. Start with an empty milk carton; grab scissors, Mod Podge and paper; then follow the instructions below. You’ll end up with an upcycled milk carton vase that no one will suspect was once a discarded empty milk carton.

supplies needed:

  • empty milk carton
  • Mod Podge and paint brush
  • scissors
  • decorative paper
  • brown paper bag

step 1 – prepare the carton

Rinse out the carton then let dry.

Partially flatten the carton and cut the top off, as shown below.

Peel the top layer of print off the carton.

step 2 – decorate the carton

Cover the outside of the carton with a layer of Mod Podge.

Tear thin decorative paper in small pieces. Apply them one at a time to the carton, then apply a second layer of Mod Podge over them. For this project, I used origami paper, but you can also use decorative paper napkins.

Once all sides are covered, apply a final thin layer of Mod Podge to the vase. Let dry completely.

step 3 – create a cuff

1 – Fold the top of a brown paper lunch bag over.  2 – Cut the top of the bag off, just below the cuff.  3 – Cut one side of the cuff to open it flat.

Next, insert the paper cuff into the carton, creating a nice top border, as shown below.

The biggest compliment is a little share – pin the photo below!
