handmade boho bracelets

Friendship bracelets are making a comeback. I have lots of sweet grade school memories of exchanging little woven bracelets with friends; I loved those colorful braided keepsakes. But I admit, I now prefer a more modern interpretation of this tradition – handmade boho bracelets. Still simple to make. Still colorful and lovely. And they still carry on the original tradition of gifting them to special friends. So what are you waiting for? Gather your supplies and let’s make a bunch for the special friends in our lives.

supplies needed:

  • 1 mm round leather cording
  • miscellaneous beads (with holes large enough for the cord to fit through)
  • scissors

step 1 – build the bracelet

Cut a piece of 1 mm leather cording approximately 15″ long. Then string beads onto the cord, creating a beautiful pattern. Experiment with different beads, patterns, and colors. If you are buying beads from Michaels or a local craft store, you will need to look through them carefully to determine if the holes are large enough to accommodate the cording. *Tip – Cut the tip of the cording at an angle to better slide through the bead holes.

step 2 – knot the ends

For this bracelet, I added a tiny silver charm to one end of the bracelet. Then I tied a regular knot to keep the beads in place.

Next, pull the beads close together, then make a second regular knot on the other end of the beads to keep them all in place.

step 3 – make a sliding knot

Now cut another piece of leather cording about 10″ long. Use this piece to make a sliding knot, as shown below. Follow my video instructions for this process.

Once the sliding knot is tied, adorn the two tails of the bracelet with a small bead then a regular knot, as shown below.

And it’s as simple as that! Once you feel comfortable making a sliding knot, you can start creating lots of handmade boho bracelets, each one unique and beautiful.

The biggest compliment is a little share – pin the photo below!
